It’s a solo Christmas for me this year but I’ll talk to lots of people, and I’m looking forward to relaxing and watching some movies.
My dad, who was raised Catholic, really loved Christmas when I was growing up. Loved decorating the tree, and when he could, loved surprising us with unique gifts (I was given an un-dreamed of guitar in 10th grade). We lived in a 3rd floor walk up in Washington Heights and each year he’d have to drag the tree down the stairs and off to the garbage room at the side of our building. This meant a trail of needles from our door to its final destination. One year he decided since our living room window was quite large he’d throw the tree out the window. He told me to go downstairs and "catch” it. I dutifully ran downstairs and waited. When he opened the window and positioned the tree to toss it I realized I’d be a fool to try to catch it so I gave it a wide berth and he shoved it out and the tree hit the ground in a shower of needles. I then hurried to drag it to the garbage room so no one knew it was our apartment that made such a mess of the courtyard.
Christmas flowers my sister and niece sent. All taken with mamiya rz 67 w polaroid back, and i-type film.
Until next time…
