Book: Bone by Fae Mynne Ng
San Francisco Chinatown. Three daughters of a seamstress navigating life. A foundational text for me. On my mind because I’m going to Chinatown to buy half a roast duck and crispy pork for my mother, who hasn’t been able to go shopping since early March. She’s excited.
Music: “Rollercoaster” Spacemen 3 (13th Floor Elevators cover) Keeping with this week’s Coney Island theme!
Polaroid ended production of Spectra film last year and I bought a bunch because it’s a beautiful film (that is, if it’s not expired). I find myself in a race to use up the boxes I still have in my film fridge. There is already decay, and it won’t be as pretty as the earlier images I got, but it’s still compelling.
You’ll be seeing results around here soon enough but here are some samples:
Flowers and two glasses that are now since broken.
TWA Lounge in the World Trade Center. A cool little exhibit that is quaintly pointless these days.
Bushwick. I had to see a Frenchman about a camera.
SoHo
(I’m finding that it’s not all prints in the packs that have gone off, so it’s unpredictable. One image will be pristine, and another will have these decay marks. I do clean my rollers between packs. The chemicals must be already drying up? The rule with Polaroid is shoot before the expiration date. I got greedy & bought too much film.)
Until next week… Adalena
