Hitchcock by Francois Truffaut
A friend recommended this book to me for writing inspiration and I searched the chapter subheadings for “suspense” and read all of Hitchcock’s examples of what suspense is and isn’t. Valuable distinctions for a fiction writer.
An example of this in Vertigo is during the second half of the movie. We know that Scotty was duped, and we’re just waiting to find out what happens when he realizes he’s been duped. In this example, suspense is the audience knowing something the character(s) don’t, and awaiting the outcome.
Caifanes, “Viento” A Mexican band from the ‘80s-’90s that’s new to me but is HUGE. Cool new wave sound! I found out about them from an instagrammer I follow, @habledevos
I’m working on an essay on ethics in photography. Should come to your inbox in a few weeks. I finally got two rolls of film developed. One is mostly pre-pandemic and I will write about the weird camera I used to take those photos next week. Another roll was a pandemic roll. Here’s one of my favorite images from the roll.
Canon EOS Elan 7e, 50mm 1.4 lens, Portra 400 shot at box speed.
(I bought this camera used for about $50 and it’s a great autofocus analog SLR. What I like about it is I can use my EF lenses from my digital camera, so if you’re already invested in Canon digital, but want to get an analog film camera, this is a cool option. One of the last analog cameras Canon made, around 2000.)
Until next time…Adalena
